2013/14 Club President John Wallace
Message from the Club President
Welcome to the Swaffham Rotary website. Our club has been active in the town since it was formed in 1969 and since then members have supported community groups and projects not just within the Swaffham area but whenever possible throughout Norfolk and beyond.
To provide this support we organise a number of fundraising events throughout the year. Many of which have become regular fixtures on the town’s social calendar. Our Art Exhibition has developed from a week end event to a month long Visual Arts Festival. Throughout the year we can be seen out and about collecting for organisations such as Marie Curie Cancer Care and our local Home Hospice. At the end of each school year we give a Dictionary 4 Life to hundreds of local children as they leave junior school.
Rotary is of course a worldwide organisation and one of its greatest achievements is the practical eradication of polio world wide; so many of our events such as our summer jazz lunch raise funds for this essential work.
While our focus is on providing help to others, our weekly meetings are a key part of our club’s programme. They are varied and enjoyable with inspirational speakers as well as presentations from our own members. We also arrange a number of social outings. Partners regularly join us for the wonderful fellowship and fun which is such an essential part of membership.
I hope you will explore the other pages of this site where you will find more details on the Rotary movement, the history of the Swaffham club, some recent events and our forthcoming programme. You can contribute to our community through your membership. Joining Rotary is also a wonderful way of making new friends. Full and associate membership is available, so please do consider joining us. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the family of Rotary.
If you have any questions, please use the contact form to get in touch.
There is no such thing as a typical Rotary member, nor a typical club. Each one of the 1,850 Rotary clubs in Britain and Ireland has its own unique personality. Clubs meet on different days of the week, at different times of the day – morning, lunchtime and in the evenings – and are involved in a vast range of different projects and activities.
Here in Swaffham we meet on a Monday evening, except the first Monday in the month when we meet at lunchtime. Currently we have 25 members and we are engaged in a number of activities locally, nationally and internationally. You will find details of our meetings and activities elsewhere on this site.
